China has developed a new explosive detector

A cutting-edge channel-type explosive detector, developed by the China Institute of Atomic Energy, has recently passed expert review and acceptance. This innovative device is designed for the inspection of luggage and suitcases, offering a significant advancement in security technology. Globally, terrorist activities often involve hidden explosives used in acts of sabotage, hijackings, and devastating attacks such as plane crashes and train bombings. To prevent such tragic events and protect people's lives and property, it is crucial for high-risk areas like airports, ports, and railway stations to have reliable methods for detecting concealed explosives. As a result, the ability to detect hidden explosives has become a global priority. Currently, many countries are exploring various technologies for explosive detection. Traditional X-ray imaging systems primarily assess the density of baggage, leaving the interpretation up to human operators based on experience. However, this method is not always accurate and cannot definitively identify explosives. In response to this challenge, the China Institute of Atomic Energy, in collaboration with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, has developed an advanced explosive detection system using Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) technology. This technology enables the device to detect explosives by analyzing their unique NQR signatures. Not only does it identify explosives, but it also detects radioactive materials simultaneously. The device features a simple, user-friendly design with only a few buttons, making it easy to operate. Currently, only a handful of countries worldwide possess the capability to produce practical and effective explosive detection systems.
