A channel-type explosive detection system, developed by the China Institute of Atomic Energy, has recently passed expert review and acceptance. This advanced device is designed for inspecting luggage and suitcases, offering a new level of security in public spaces.
Globally, terrorist activities often involve hidden explosives, leading to hijackings, bombings, and other tragic incidents that endanger lives and property. To prevent such disasters, airports, train stations, and ports must have reliable methods to detect concealed explosives in baggage. As a result, explosive detection has become a critical concern worldwide.
Currently, many countries are exploring various technologies for detecting explosives. Traditional X-ray systems mainly analyze the density of items, leaving it up to operators to make judgments based on experience. This method is not always accurate and may miss potential threats.
In response to this challenge, the China Institute of Atomic Energy, in collaboration with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, has developed an innovative explosive detection device using Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) technology. This system identifies explosives by analyzing their unique NQR signatures, providing more accurate and reliable results than conventional methods. In addition to detecting explosives, the device can also identify radioactive materials. Its user-friendly design features a simple channel structure with just a few buttons, making it easy to operate. Currently, only a handful of countries possess the capability to produce such practical and effective detection systems.
