On July 14, it was reported that Huaneng Group announced on July 7 the successful completion of a 96-hour trial run for China's first domestically developed 210,000 kW circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler unit. This milestone marks the successful development and application of the country’s first large-scale CFB boiler with full independent intellectual property rights, showcasing significant progress in domestic clean energy technology. During the trial operation, the system performed exceptionally well, reaching a maximum load of 224,000 kW, while all key technical indicators met the design specifications. A notable feature of this project is the self-developed external heat exchanger, known as the compact split-flow ash heat exchanger. This component demonstrated stable and reliable performance, successfully passing real-world operational tests. To support the development of a 200,000 kW class CFB boiler, the Xi’an Thermal Power Research Institute designed an advanced external heat exchanger—a compact split-ash return heat exchanger. This innovative system uses a unique pneumatic method to control the flow of circulating ash, integrating both the return hot valve and the external bed of the circulating hot ash. Its simple structure, ease of operation and maintenance, and cost-effectiveness make it a game-changer for the large-scale development of CFB boilers. Circulating fluidized bed boiler technology is considered one of the key clean coal power generation technologies, alongside flue gas purification systems and supercritical/ultra-supercritical power generation. It offers significant reductions in pollutant emissions, wide adaptability to different coal types, and excellent load-following capabilities, making it a promising solution for sustainable energy production in the future.
