China National Heavy Duty Truck Group (CNHTC) has launched a new fuel-efficient engine model, the Fuel Economy II, designed to significantly reduce fuel consumption in heavy-duty vehicles. This advanced power system allows trucks to consume 3-5 liters less fuel per 100 kilometers compared to similar domestic models, representing a reduction of over 10%. The innovation marks a major step forward in CNHTC's efforts to improve efficiency and competitiveness in the global market.
The new fuel-efficient engine will officially be available for sale around October this year, following its introduction in August. All future CNHTC vehicle models will be equipped with this next-generation power system, ensuring a consistent improvement in performance and fuel economy across the company’s entire product line.
Developed in collaboration with foreign design institutes, the Fuel Economy II engine follows the European machinery development program and is tailored specifically for China’s road conditions. It features exclusive intellectual property rights and incorporates advanced technologies such as the 8500 injection pump and a bleed-valve-equipped supercharger, which greatly enhance both engine power and fuel efficiency. The system meets European emission standards, making it one of the most advanced solutions in the industry.
According to Wang Donghui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee at CNHTC, the company has been actively working to position itself among the world’s top heavy truck manufacturers. At the start of the year, CNHTC initiated a strategic plan to upgrade its original Steyr engine and develop a leading domestic power system that aligns with global trends. Through 17 key improvements, the project transformed the product into a more powerful and efficient solution.
In July, CNHTC successfully began mass production of its independently developed Euro III-compliant engines, providing a stronger foundation for the growth of its heavy truck business. These advancements not only boost performance but also support the company’s long-term vision of becoming a global leader in the heavy vehicle industry.
This latest development highlights CNHTC’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and technological excellence. As the company continues to push boundaries, it is well-positioned to meet the evolving demands of the global transportation sector.
