China National Heavy Duty Truck Launches New Generation of Fuel Saving II Engine

China National Heavy Duty Truck Group (CNHTC) has launched a new fuel-efficient power system featuring the Fuel Economy II engine. This advanced power solution is designed to significantly reduce fuel consumption in heavy-duty trucks, offering a 3-5 liter per 100 kilometers improvement over similar domestic models—equivalent to a drop of more than 10%. The upgrade not only enhances efficiency but also aligns with global environmental and performance standards. Starting from August this year, vehicles equipped with the next-generation fuel-efficient engines will be officially available on the market by October. As part of a broader strategy, all CNHTC vehicle models will eventually be fitted with these improved power systems, marking a major step forward in the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability. The Fuel Economy II engine was developed based on the lifting engine introduced earlier this year. It was co-designed with foreign engineering institutes following the European machinery development program. However, it was specifically tailored to meet the unique demands of China’s road transport infrastructure, ensuring both high performance and energy efficiency. The system features an exclusive 8500 injection pump and replaces the traditional common rail supercharger with a bleed valve-equipped version, significantly boosting engine power and fuel economy. The result is a fuel-saving performance that meets European standards. According to Wang Donghui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee at CNHTC, the company has set a clear goal: to become one of the world’s leading heavy truck manufacturers. To achieve this, CNHTC initiated a strategic plan at the start of the year, focusing on developing a top-tier domestic engine that keeps pace with global trends. This involved a comprehensive upgrade of the original Steyr engine, with 17 key improvements implemented across the project. These changes led to a complete transformation of the product line. In July, CNHTC successfully launched its first domestically developed engine with independent intellectual property rights and Euro III emission compliance. This milestone provides a stronger and more efficient power system for the continued growth of the company’s heavy truck business. As CNHTC continues to innovate and push boundaries, it is setting a new benchmark for the Chinese heavy truck industry. With its focus on efficiency, sustainability, and global competitiveness, the company is well-positioned to lead the market in the years to come.
