Demers Ambulances and Lion Electric Launch All-Electric Ambulance

From Jems.com:

Demers Ambulances, a top North American manufacturer of ambulance vehicles, has partnered with Lion Electric (NYSE: LEV; TSX: LEV), a leader in all-electric medium and heavy-duty urban vehicles, to launch the Demers eFX Ambulance — the first fully electric and purpose-built ambulance on the market.

Set for commercial release in the second half of 2022, this groundbreaking model was developed with support from the Quebec government and the National Research Council of Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). The project involved nearly five years of collaboration between Demers and Lion, including direct input from paramedics and emergency medical service providers. This is the first ambulance designed specifically with the needs of paramedics in mind.

The Lion5 chassis will be manufactured in Saint-Jérôme by Lion, while the medical compartment and final assembly will take place at Demers’ facility in Beloeil. The all-electric ambulance is expected to be sold across North America and eventually globally, as Demers and its affiliated brands already operate in 43 countries. Under an exclusive agreement, Demers plans to deploy at least 1,500 all-electric ambulances over the next five years.

Beyond being a game-changer in the shift toward sustainable emergency transport, the eFX ambulance also promises improved ergonomics, safety, and efficiency for paramedics, as well as better comfort for patients. It features a custom-designed chassis built specifically for ambulance use, with a completely reimagined interior layout that enhances both functionality and usability.

A major challenge for paramedics is being able to move freely while the vehicle is in motion to provide care, even while wearing a seatbelt. To address this, the Demers R&D team, working closely with paramedics throughout the development process, has introduced several innovative features that will be revealed before the vehicle goes into production.
