Excerpts from Jems.com:
Demers Ambulances, a top manufacturer of ambulance vehicles in North America, has partnered with Lion Electric Company (NYSE: LEV) (TSX: LEV), a leader in all-electric medium and heavy-duty urban vehicles, to introduce the Demers eFX Ambulance — the first fully electric, purpose-built ambulance on the market.
Set for commercial release in the second half of 2022, this groundbreaking model was developed with support from the Quebec government and the National Research Council of Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). The project took nearly five years of collaboration between Demers and Lion, involving direct input from paramedics and emergency medical service providers. This is the first ambulance designed specifically with the needs of paramedics in mind.
The Lion5 chassis will be built in Saint-Jérôme by Lion, while the medical section and final assembly will take place at Demers’ facility in Beloeil. The fully electric ambulance will be available across North America and eventually globally, as Demers and its affiliated brands already operate in 43 countries. Under an exclusive agreement, Demers plans to deploy at least 1,500 all-electric ambulances over the next five years.
Beyond being a milestone in the shift to cleaner energy, the eFX Ambulance promises improved ergonomics, safety, and efficiency for paramedics, along with better comfort for patients. It also marks an industry first with a custom-designed chassis optimized for ambulance use.
The design team from Demers and Lion completely reimagined the layout and functionality of the ambulance, focusing on creating a more intuitive and efficient space for both paramedics and patients. One of the main challenges addressed is allowing paramedics to move freely while the vehicle is in motion, without compromising safety or comfort.
With input from numerous paramedics throughout the development process, the eFX Ambulance features several innovative solutions that will be revealed before certification and production begin. This collaboration represents a major step forward in modernizing emergency medical services through sustainable and smart technology.
Thanks, Martin
