A few days ago, an important meeting was held in Shenyang to kick off the development of industrial standards for stable slow-release fertilizers and their inhibitors. This initiative is expected to fill a critical gap in the international standardization of stable fertilizer products. The new industry standard is anticipated to be officially released by the end of 2008. Once implemented, it will bring much-needed structure to the production, sales, and technology of inhibitors and stabilized fertilizers in China, significantly contributing to the sustainable growth of the industry.
For many years, the absence of clear industry and national standards for these products has led to chaos in the market. Quality has been inconsistent, enforcement has lacked solid legal backing, and this has made it difficult for regulators to manage product quality effectively. As a result, consumers have suffered losses, and the long-term development of the stable fertilizer sector has been hindered. Therefore, establishing comprehensive standards is essential for the future of this important agricultural technology.
During the meeting, experts from across the industry reviewed the global and domestic development of slow-release fertilizers and inhibitors. They emphasized that as society moves toward more resource-efficient models and ecological agriculture becomes more prominent, the demand for compound, efficient, sustained-release, controlled-release, and environmentally friendly fertilizers is growing rapidly. China's stable slow-release fertilizers and inhibitors have strong research foundations and now represent the core of the country's long-term slow-release fertilizer market, accounting for over 80% of the controlled-release fertilizer production.
Moreover, China has already built a 1 million-ton production line for effective slow-release compound fertilizers and a 300,000-ton coated controlled-release fertilizer base. These facilities have enabled widespread application of stable slow-release fertilizers in agriculture, earning high praise from farmers and driving the rapid expansion of the industry. The positive impact on both crop yields and environmental sustainability is becoming increasingly evident.
