My largest thermal power unit high pressure pipe is completed in Bohai Heavy Industry

On December 13, China's largest thermal power unit, the Tianjin Beijiang 2×1000 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant, marked a major milestone as its high-pressure pipe fittings were successfully produced by Bohai Heavy Industry Pipeline Co., Ltd. This achievement opened the door for domestic production of million-kilowatt ultra-supercritical power plant components, setting a new precedent in the industry. The Tianjin Beijiang project is currently recognized as the world’s largest thermal power unit, and its requirements for high-pressure pipe fittings are exceptionally stringent. The materials used by Bohai Heavy Industry include A335P92, P22, and 106C, which can endure pressures up to 39 MPa and temperatures reaching 610°C. The pipe fittings feature a wall thickness of 167 mm, while the three-way shoulders reach up to 201 mm. During testing, the product withstood an experimental pressure of 60 MPa, with all inspection data meeting rigorous standards, breaking the long-standing monopoly held by foreign manufacturers. According to Liu Shangci, Chairman of Bohai Heavy Industry, the company was previously known as Bozhou Bohai Pipe Fittings Co., Ltd., and was rebranded as Bohai Heavy Industry on December 1, 2007. Before this breakthrough, high-pressure pipe fittings for million-kilowatt units were entirely imported. To support the localization of large-scale equipment, Shanghai Boiler Factory conducted extensive evaluations of domestic manufacturers following the Tianjin 2×1000 MW ultra-supercritical project. Eventually, Bohai Heavy Industry was selected as the preferred supplier. After months of meticulous planning, Bohai successfully completed the production of these high-pressure pipe fittings, from material selection to mold manufacturing and process optimization. The successful development of this product has generated significant interest across the Chinese industry, with many power plants and boiler manufacturers sending technical teams to visit. Notably, Harbin Boiler Factory quickly dispatched experts in craftsmanship and materials to gather reference data for their own million-kilowatt projects. With the growing emphasis on large-scale power generation in China's electricity market, the proportion of big power plants continues to rise. As early as two years ago, Bohai Heavy Industries began preparations for the second phase of its expansion project, aiming to replace imported high-pressure pipes with domestically produced alternatives. The project has now been designated as a key initiative in Hebei Province and is gradually entering full-scale production. It is also reported that Bohai Heavy Industry plans to establish a complete industrial chain for high-pressure pipeline systems, further solidifying its position in the energy sector.
