Castrol: Donating millions to help disaster relief in Hunan

Since mid-January, southern China has been hit by severe cold weather, including heavy snow, blizzards, and freezing temperatures, affecting most provinces. Hunan Province experienced the worst freeze in 50 years, with widespread impact, long duration, and serious consequences. The extreme weather caused traffic jams, power outages, water cuts, and food shortages, trapping thousands of people and disrupting travel for millions across the country. In response to the crisis, BP (China) and Castrol (China), well-known multinational companies, donated a total of one million yuan in cash and materials to the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation. This included 540,000 yuan worth of anti-freeze products from Jiabaobao and 460,000 yuan in cash, aiming to support emergency efforts in medical rescue, transportation, power, and water management. As continuous snow and freezing conditions disrupted daily life and transportation, workers were seen clearing roads, while power and water teams rushed to repair infrastructure. Medical and emergency vehicles also worked tirelessly under harsh conditions. Recognizing the challenges faced by frontline workers, BP and Castrol took swift action, delivering supplies directly to affected areas. Their efforts aimed to enhance the efficiency of rescue operations and provide much-needed relief to those impacted. On February 2nd, a small donation ceremony was held at the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation. Ms. Ren Yafang, Vice President of BP (China), presented the donation on behalf of Castrol. She emphasized that the company had mobilized its entire supply chain, sending 36,000 liters of anti-freeze fluid along with 460,000 yuan in cash. This initiative not only provided essential vehicle protection but also supported the foundation’s “You Have This, This Winter Will Not Be Cold” campaign, reflecting a deep sense of social responsibility. Ren Zeng added, “In times of disaster, action speaks louder than words. This is a core value we have always upheld. Every company and individual should contribute when needed. We hope this partnership with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation will inspire more businesses to join in disaster relief, ensuring a warm and safe Spring Festival for everyone.” Wang Xing, Secretary-General of the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, expressed gratitude for the generous donation. He noted that while the disaster caused significant damage, it also brought widespread support from society. Castrol’s prompt response demonstrated the company's commitment to social responsibility. He assured that the donated supplies would be distributed quickly to the most urgent needs, such as medical, transportation, and utility services. As a global energy company, BP Group and its subsidiary Castrol measure success not only by financial and technical performance but also by their social and environmental contributions. In the face of the southern snow disaster, BP Group actively participated in relief efforts, showcasing its role as a responsible corporate citizen. Together with the people of Hunan, the company stood united in the fight against the storm, striving for a quick recovery and a brighter future.
