The 7-cylinder 58-type marine diesel engine, manufactured by the Dalian Marine Diesel Engine Factory, has successfully completed all required tests and has been delivered to its client. This low-speed engine features an electronically controlled common rail fuel system, capable of delivering a maximum power output of 15,260 kW. It will be installed on an 110,000-ton oil tanker being built by Dalian New Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for Denmark’s TORM company. This marks a historic milestone as it is the world's first electronically controlled common rail marine diesel engine. The successful development of this engine places Dalian Marine Diesel Engine Factory on equal footing with leading manufacturers in Japan and South Korea, and represents a significant achievement in enhancing the shipbuilding support capabilities of Dalian.
As the main propulsion unit of a vessel, the diesel engine is often referred to as the "heart" of the ship. The electronically controlled common rail diesel engine combines cutting-edge electronic technology with traditional mechanical power systems, setting a new standard for modern marine engines. In recent years, the global shipping industry has shown a clear trend toward adopting such advanced technologies, gradually replacing conventional mechanical models. This shift paves the way for the full intelligentization of ship engines, making them more efficient, environmentally friendly, and easier to manage. With this breakthrough, China is taking a major step forward in the global marine engine market.
