In order to enhance the research on fundamental standards for wood and wood-based panels, and to strengthen standardization efforts in the industry, the Standardization Research Institute of the Institute of Timber Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry, has recently been established. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first dedicated standardized research laboratory in China's timber sector. The establishment aims to promote more systematic and scientific approaches to standard development and management.
The newly formed research office is tasked with overseeing the secretariat work for both the China National Timber Standardization Committee and the National Panel Standardization Technical Committee. It focuses on formulating strategic directions for standardization in the wood and panel industries, conducting foundational pre-standard research, and supporting the administrative functions of the Wood Industry Branch of the Chinese Forestry Society.
Mr. Wu Danping, who serves as the Secretary-General of the National Panel-based Standardization Technical Committee, has been appointed as the Director of the Standardization Research Office. Dr. Duan Xinfang, a Senior Researcher, will act as the Deputy Director. Together, they are expected to lead the institute in advancing the standardization framework and promoting high-quality development within the timber and panel industries. This initiative reflects the growing importance of standardization in ensuring product quality, safety, and environmental sustainability in China’s forestry sector.
