In order to enhance research on fundamental standards for wood and wood-based panels, and to further strengthen standardization efforts in the industry, the Standardization Research Institute under the Institute of Timber Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry, has recently been established. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first dedicated laboratory for standardized research within China’s timber industry.
The newly formed research institute is tasked with overseeing the administrative functions of the Secretariat of the China National Timber Standardization Committee and the Secretariat of the National Panel Standardization Technical Committee. Its primary focus includes developing strategic approaches to standardization for wood and wood-based panels, conducting foundational pre-standard research, and supporting the secretariat work of the Wood Industry Branch of the Chinese Forestry Society.
Mr. Wu Danping, who serves as the Secretary-General of the National Panel-based Standardization Technical Committee, has been appointed as the Director of the Standardization Research Office. Dr. Duan Xinfang, a senior researcher, will act as the Deputy Director. Together, they aim to lead the institute in advancing national standards and promoting sustainable development within the timber and panel industries.
This initiative reflects a growing commitment to improving quality control, ensuring consistency, and fostering innovation through standardized practices across the sector. The establishment of this research office is expected to play a crucial role in shaping future policies and enhancing the competitiveness of China's timber industry on both domestic and international levels.
