Still and Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 12/23/18

Early Sunday morning on December 23rd, around 4:45 AM, Engine 75 arrived at the scene of a fire on 117th Street near LaSalle Avenue. The crew reported encountering a blaze in a two-and-a-half-story wooden building. Within minutes, Battalion 22 requested a formal fire response and mentioned that flames were spreading across two structures. As firefighters forced their way inside, they discovered significant fire damage in the attic of the wooden building. Despite the challenging situation, the team managed to access the attic and quickly extinguish the flames before they could spread further. The initial challenge arose when the fire intensified in the attic space. However, thanks to the swift actions of the firefighters, the situation was brought under control without major escalation. Their efforts ensured that the fire did not advance beyond its initial location, preventing potential damage to neighboring buildings. Attached are several photos taken by Eric Haak, capturing the intensity and aftermath of the incident. The first image shows the exterior of the affected building, highlighting the extent of the damage. Another photo captures Engine 62 on the scene, demonstrating the scale of the emergency response. Additional images depict firefighters working on the roof and conducting overhaul operations in the attic, showcasing their dedication and teamwork. These photographs provide a glimpse into the hard work and coordination required to manage such incidents effectively. The firefighters' quick thinking and decisive action were crucial in containing the fire and minimizing its impact on the community. [Note: All images are courtesy of Eric Haak.]

Honed Steel Tubing

The cold working methods of steel pipes mainly include cold drawing and cold rolling. The raw materials of cold-rolled steel pipes can be hot-rolled seamless steel pipes or welded pipes. The common characteristics of the cold working method of steel pipes are high dimensional accuracy and good surface roughness. It can produce very thin (up to 0.05~0.01mm) thin-walled tubes and very thin (up to 0.3~0.1 mm in diameter) capillaries.

Seamless Steel Pipe is a kind of pipe with hollow section, which is widely used to transport fluids, such as oil, natural gas, gas, water and some solid materials. Compared with solid steel such as round steel, steel pipe is light in weight when its bending and torsional strength is the same. It is a kind of economic section steel, which is widely used in pipeline engineering.
