Oak Lawn 2-11

This just came in a little while ago this evening. I was on the scene shortly after the call came in for a 2-11 at a strip mall on 95th Street in Oak Lawn. The fire was reported to have started at Eva’s Bridal Shop, which is located at the back of the strip mall. By the time I arrived, the flames had already spread significantly, engulfing not only the bridal shop but also the adjacent Radio Shack. I managed to capture some incredible images before the firefighters started spraying water on the front of the building. My shots show the intense firefighting efforts in the rear where the fire initially broke out. You can see the firefighters bravely advancing lines as thick plumes of smoke billow out of the windows. As the fire intensified, it quickly spread to the neighboring stores along 95th Street. One particularly striking image shows the devastating scale of the fire from the rear of the strip mall. Another shot captures the eerie sight of an empty 95th Street, with smoke escaping dramatically from the front of the building. By the time the fire companies began their attack, the situation had grown dire. In one image, you can see the chief officers strategizing and communicating with various fire companies about how best to tackle the blaze. It was clear they were preparing for a defensive operation. The firefighters worked tirelessly, using elevated master streams and multiple handlines to try and control the inferno. There’s a powerful photo showing two massive streams of water being directed at the flames, slowly darkening them and preventing further spread to adjacent units. Chicago Ridge firefighters brought in their impressive E-ONE tower ladder, positioning it strategically in Sector ‘A’ right in front of the burning building. You can see another amazing shot of the Roberts Park FD’s Pierce aerial, which was deployed on the eastern side of the ‘A’ sector, assisting in the effort. One of the most haunting images is of the facade partially collapsing on the original fire unit. The firefighters are seen sweeping their master stream into the single-story structure from a low angle, just above the street level. It’s a testament to their courage and dedication. As the night wore on, the fire continued to rage, consuming everything in its path. A closer look at the Chicago Ridge E-ONE tower ladder shows the immense challenge they faced. Despite the odds, the firefighters remained focused and determined. For those interested in more details or additional photos, there’s even more coverage available HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE. If you want to check out the Oak Lawn Fire Department stations and their apparatus, you can find that HERE. It was an intense and challenging fire, but thanks to the relentless efforts of the firefighters, the spread was eventually contained. The images captured by Hank Sajovic provide a vivid glimpse into the bravery and skill displayed by these first responders.
