On Wednesday afternoon, firefighters from Arlington Heights were dispatched to 2150 S. Goebberts Road after receiving reports of smoke filling the hallways of a two-story apartment complex. This building spanned approximately 45 feet by 200 feet. En route, officers from the police department communicated that they observed black smoke emanating from one of the units, prompting an upgrade to a Code 4 status, indicating an active fire. Upon arrival, the first responding unit, Arlington Heights Engine 3, initially did not notice anything visibly alarming from their approach but detected smoke inside the structure and deployed a pre-connected hose line. Shortly thereafter, Mt. Prospect Engine 12 arrived and assisted with setting up a water supply line before entering the building. Thankfully, the fire was confined to a single unit and swiftly brought under control.
Larry Shapiro captured some images towards the end of the firefighting operations. You can view additional photos in the accompanying gallery HERE.
Attached is a photograph showing the initial response setup. The first engine on the scene had one line operational. Another line was deployed from a different engine. Interestingly, Arlington Heights Engine Company 3 utilized a backup engine during this incident. All engines within their current fleet are manufactured by Pierce on Quantum chassis. In this image, you can see Larry Shapiro's work documenting the scene.
Another shot highlights light smoke escaping from the first-floor apartment where the fire originated. Both Arlington Heights and Mt. Prospect boast Pierce Quantum engines in their fleets. In the background, behind Arlington Engine 3, stands Mt. Prospect Engine 12. Both vehicles feature first-generation Quantum cabs, as noted by Larry Shapiro.
These images provide a glimpse into the coordinated efforts between departments to manage and resolve the situation effectively.
