Larry Shapiro sent over these initial images from 4773 Trenton Court in the Royal Melbourne subdivision of Long Grove. Part of this neighborhood falls under the Long Grove Fire Protection District, while the remainder is managed by the Countryside Fire Protection District.
Late on Friday, before 11 PM, emergency services were called to reports of a fire. By the time firefighters arrived, the homeowner had already stepped outside the house just moments prior to a massive explosion that completely obliterated the structure. The blast sent debris flying in every direction. Neighboring houses weren’t spared either—several experienced shattered windows, warped garage doors, or even structural harm.
I’ll keep you updated as more details emerge throughout the day.

As I continue reviewing these photos, it’s clear how devastating the explosion was. The force must have been unimaginable for the entire area affected. It’s always heartbreaking to see such destruction, especially when it happens in what seemed like a quiet community. I’m hoping the homeowner and neighbors are safe, though I imagine it will take some time for everyone to recover emotionally and financially from this incident. If there's any silver lining, it’s that the homeowner was outside when the explosion occurred, which likely saved them from serious injury.
I'll make sure to share anything else noteworthy that comes up.
