Scientists develop super black material

British scientists have developed a strange new type of material that is black and invisible to the eye. It is made of “super black” coated carbon nanotubes. Each nanotube is 10,000 times thinner than human hair. It can absorb all 99.96% of visible light, leaving only a clear abyss. It looks like a black hole, like nothing.

The nanotube material named Vantablack can be used for astronomical cameras, telescopes and infrared scanning systems. This material is 10 times more tensile than copper and steel. The inventor refused to discuss the potential of his application. Vantablack announced this week at the Farnborough International Airshow that the basic nanotubes formed are small, with only a small amount of light passing through. Most of the surrounding light is reflected or absorbed.
