Despite the great success in the filtration industry, MANN+HUMMEL continues to move forward and is constantly striving to improve its competitiveness in all aspects. Whether it is expanding product portfolios and applications, or expanding global cooperation and partnership networks, MANN+HUMMEL strives to achieve greater breakthroughs in innovation, quality and diversity. It is in this spirit of innovation that MANN+HUMMEL has gradually evolved from its former parts manufacturers to today's internationally renowned system suppliers and market leaders.

From textile manufacturer to filter specialist

Mannheimer was founded in 1941 during World War II. At the time, company founders Adolf Mann (1890-1971) and Dr Erich Hummel (1893-1984) were also managing partners of Bleyle, a textile manufacturer from Ludwigsburg. Since wartime textiles were not included in the list of necessary commodities, Bleyle was forced to stop production. In order to keep the job opportunities, Mr. Adolf Mann and Dr. Erich Hummel decided to purchase a company's filter business. FILTERWERK MANN+HUMMEL Co., Ltd. was born. At the end of World War II, the economy collapsed completely. The motor and engine industries were affected and MANN+HUMMEL was not spared. In order to survive, the company began to produce daily necessities: including kettles, frying pans, taps, and even household small carts. Eventually, MANN+HUMMEL resumed its tradition of producing textiles. Until 1972, the company also produced haute couture under the PAMINA MANN brand at the "Textile Factory" in Ludwigsburg (currently the 7th factory).

Huge growth

Being an expert in filtration is a constant pursuit of MANN+HUMMEL. The MANN+HUMMEL headquarters is located in Ludwigsburg in the Stuttgart region. The Stuttgart region is the cradle of the German automotive industry, where the headquarters of well-known car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are located. After World War II, the automotive industry developed rapidly and the world entered the automobile era. At this time, the founder of the company decided to switch to manufacturing air, oil and fuel filters. This proved to be a wise move, because MANN+HUMMEL has now begun to develop at a rapid pace, just like the automotive industry. In 1951, MANN+HUMMEL participated in the first auto show of the company with its latest filter paper-based filter medium and passed the show to fame and harvested large quantities of orders. And this opens up a new chapter in the development of the MANN+HUMMEL filter business. In 1952, MANN+HUMMEL introduced an assembly line production operation mode to greatly increase production efficiency. In 1954, MANN+HUMMEL built a new factory in Ludwigsburg and continued to expand its production capacity to meet the huge market demand. In 1962, MANN+HUMMEL began to use yellow-green-based packaging on its filter products. Since then, in the subsequent decades, regardless of the changes in the design of the MANN+HMEL filter product packaging, the yellow-green harmonized “MANN FILTER” is always preserved. The yellow-green box has also become the most intuitive and vivid understanding of MANN+HUMMEL products for ordinary buyers.

Diversification brings the second pillar

Thanks to the rapid development of the global automotive industry, MANN+HUMMEL has become an outstanding partner of many automobile manufacturers after years of efforts due to its excellent filtration product R&D capability and reliable product quality. In the automotive industry, MANN+HUMMEL products include multifunctional plastic air filtration systems, intake manifold systems, liquid filtration systems, air conditioning filters and cylinder head covers, and filter cartridges for after-sales service and maintenance of vehicles. But MANN+HUMMEL not only met the success in the automotive industry, but the filter business in the general industrial sector, especially the construction machinery industry, soon developed into its second pillar area. At present, MANN+HUMMEL's filtration products have been used in industries such as general engineering, process engineering, industrial manufacturing, and water treatment. Industrial filtration products include industrial filters and a series of products that can reduce the carbon emissions of diesel engines. Membrane filters, filtration systems, material handling systems and equipment for water treatment.

While the product range is increasingly diversified, MANN+HUMMEL has also begun to expand its business area, gradually expanding from Germany at the beginning of its establishment to Europe and other parts of the world. Manmoomer entered South America in 1959, marking that MANN+HUMMEL began to embark on the path of global expansion. Then he entered Spain in 1965, Belgium in 1988, Mexico and the Czech Republic in 1993, and China, the United States, and Britain in 1996.

Today, the MANN+HUMMEL Group has approximately 13,200 employees in 41 regions on 5 continents in the world. In 2010, the Group's turnover exceeded 2.18 billion Euros, an increase of 30.4%, and the growth rate significantly exceeded the global automotive industry level ( The global automotive industry only increased by about 8% in the same year. In the first half of 2011, MANN+HUMMEL Group's revenue increased by approximately 20% from the same period of last year to 1.2 billion Euros, and achieved satisfactory performance (EBIT) under high cost. At present, the growth of MANN+HUMMEL in the Americas, Eastern Europe and Asia is particularly prominent.

Writing Filtration in the Future

From 1941 to 2011, MANN+HUMMEL has gone through 70 years, but its products and operating guidelines have not yet stopped. On the contrary, MANN+HUMMEL will continue to innovate based on years of accumulated expertise and technical strength. It will increase research and development efforts in terms of improving the efficiency of replacement of electric motors, fuel cells, and other drivers, focusing on “focusing,” “honesty,” and “ "Leadership," "teamwork," "pursuit of excellence," and "respect and care" are the driving forces and goals of the company's long-term development. At the same time, MANN+HUMMEL will use its expertise in automotive filtration in non-automotive areas such as industrial and water filtration. By providing quality products, best services and innovative technologies, MANN+HUMMEL strives to be the best choice for global customers seeking filtration solutions.
