BMW topped the US luxury car sales chart in the first half of this year

Car manufacturers recently announced data on car sales in the US market in June 2011. The data released so far shows that German luxury car maker BMW sold more cars in the United States in the first half of 2011 than its main competitors, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota's Lexus.

BMW 5 Series Sedan

BMW Motor Co. said in a statement that, thanks to the release of the new BMW 5 Series sedan and SUV, the company’s vehicle sales in the US market in June increased by 13% year-on-year to 2.16 million units. Mercedes-Benz also released data showing that the company sold 20,700 vehicles in the US market in June, a year-on-year increase of 13%.

In addition, Lexus, which dominated the US luxury car market for 10 years, sold only 10,800 vehicles in June, which was down 38% from the same period of last year.

According to statistics, in the first half of 2011, the cumulative sales volume of the BMW car market in the United States reached 117,700, which exceeded the Mercedes-Benz sales of 110,900 units and Lexus's 88,000 units.

Jim O'Donnell, North American president of BMW North America Motor Company, said: "Lexus is now falling behind too much."
