Cummins, the world's leading multi-power leader, uses electric power as a strategic plan for the future

At the 2019 Bloomberg New Energy Finance Summit (BNEF) in New York, Julie Furber, executive director of Cummins Electric Power Division, shared her views on the electrification of the industrial and commercial vehicle markets.

Fu Lili made it clear that Cummins' strategy is to develop the most efficient powertrain solution, meet emission requirements, and promote the implementation of relevant regulations. Therefore, Cummins can meet customer requirements and minimize the impact on the environment. The road to a purely electric world is not simple, it is full of twists and turns, and there are many difficulties to overcome.

Off-highway electric applications

Energy diversity, connectivity and automation are key factors in transforming the global business community. For the off-highway market, working conditions are difficult and working hours are a daily challenge. As the industry continues to advance, Cummins' product portfolio continues to evolve, continuing to innovate diesel and natural gas solutions, while electric power solutions have become one of Cummins' key development projects.

When the world is looking for breakthroughs to solve current and future problems, the electric solution will play a role in the following three directions:

Improve the working environment

Long-running equipment in closed areas may result in excessive emissions and reduced air quality in areas such as ports, airports and distribution centers. By electrifying equipment in these areas, emissions are reduced, creating a more comfortable working environment for the operator.

Perfect technology

Cummins Electric's leading position in the automation and development of collision avoidance technology, a large number of sensors and complex control systems help improve performance and reduce operating costs. In the next decade, the urban population is expected to increase substantially, and the automated urban pipeline will be fully improved. In a dark, confined underground environment, anti-collision technology ensures safe operation of the vehicle when the line is expanded.

Noise reduction at construction sites

The sound of a large number of equipment operations often leads to very noisy construction sites. The electric mini excavator powered by Cummins is completely battery-powered, which not only reduces noise pollution, but also extends working hours.

For some work environments, electric power solutions can improve the way they work. Adapting to the trend is Cummins' strategy to shape the future. Next, Cummins will develop the next generation of electric power systems for off-highway applications.

Road market electric application

As the world's leading multi-power leader, Cummins is using the application of electric power as a strategic plan for the future.

Cummins presented the electric drive system at the "next-generation" technology show at the Columbus Technology Center in Indiana.

The powertrain is installed on the prototype “urban hauler” electric truck and will be used primarily in the local freight and haulage market.

Calstart CEO John Boesel said that given the size of Cummins and its position in the trucking industry, its significance in the field of electric power applications is significant.

Fu Lili said that the company will introduce the electricized power system to all product lines according to market conditions.

The prototype truck's 140 kWh Li-Ion battery pack provides up to 100 miles of cruising range on a single charge, adding an extra battery to increase the range of purely electric mileage to 300 miles, while an extended range diesel generator can be increased to 500 miles.

The provision of electric powertrains for trucks is due to the specific needs of the regional market. California is a strong supporter of electric trucks and home to numerous manufacturers and demonstration projects.

Cummins Chief Technology Officer Jennifer Rumsey said in an interview that Cummins will respond to the call for improved air quality and actively respond to future market changes due to low carbon environmental demand.

Transformer

Input:60HZ-7200V/50HZ-6000V;

First output voltage:500V-3000V;       Second output voltage:60HZ-460V/50HZ-380V

The device is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction to change the AC voltage. The main components are primary coils, secondary coils and cores. The main functions are: voltage transformation, current transformation, impedance transformation, isolation, voltage stabilizing (magnetic saturation transformer) and so on. It can be divided into power transformers and special transformers (electric transformer, rectifier and transformer, power frequency transformer, voltage regulator, mine change, audio transformer, intermediate frequency transformer, high-frequency transformer, shock transformer, transformer, transformer, reactor, intersenser, etc.).
