Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have used 4D printing technology to create objects that can change shape. MIT mathematician is also the principal person in charge of the research Danaviev and his colleagues are studying 4D printing, which involves shaping the shape of the 3D printing project. The researchers used two materials with different properties for 3D printing. One type of material is hard plastic and is fixed in shape after printing, while the other material is water-absorbing and may double when immersed in water.
This water-absorbing material, developed by the 3D printing company Stratasys in Minnesota, has not been disclosed. In this study, the researchers printed a square grid measuring approximately 15 inches or 38 centimeters on each side. When they placed the grid in water, they found that the absorbent material began to stretch. The researchers used 3D printing to create a shape similar to the English abbreviation MIT and transform it into another SAL-like English abbreviation. Researchers said: "In the future, the technology will be widely used."
