According to foreign media reports, Germany will ban the sale of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles by 2030. The new car that was registered from that year must be a zero-emission vehicle, in order to achieve the goal of reducing national carbon dioxide emissions by 80-95% by 2050.
Previously, the German government promised to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 80-95% nationwide by 2050. However, in the current process, the country has lagged behind this goal. German Deputy Minister of Economics Rainer Baake proposed a new regulation stating that by 2030, Germany will ban the sale of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles to achieve the goal of zero emissions for new vehicles. Baake believes that vehicles usually have a 20-year lifespan. By cutting off the sale of traditional diesel locomotives by 2030, the sources of emissions in the German transport system will be greatly reduced by 2050.
At present, the number of new energy vehicles in Germany has reached 155,000. The government hopes that by 2020, the number of electric vehicles will exceed 500,000. The government plans to start subsidizing sales of pure and hybrid vehicles later this year. This policy is expected to bring the sales of electric vehicles to 500,000 by 2020.
Some foreign media pointed out that the current carbon dioxide emissions of the transportation industry account for about one-fifth of Germany's total carbon dioxide emissions, and the new policy will help to reduce Germany's carbon dioxide emissions by 40% in 2020 compared to 1990.
