Chicago 2-11 Alarm Fire 2-18-11

Chicago experienced a severe 2-11 alarm fire this morning at a two-story commercial building located at 2100 W. Fulton Street. The incident began around 4:30 AM when a caller reported smoke and flames. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions inside the structure. As the fire spread rapidly through the roof, the situation escalated to a 2-11 alarm. It was later confirmed that the building had a bowstring truss roof, which contributed to the rapid fire spread. To combat the intense blaze, two tower ladders and the Snorkel unit from Squad 1 were deployed with elevated master streams. In addition, two ground-level multi-purpose nozzles were used to control the fire from the outside. A Level I Hazardous Materials response was also activated as a precautionary measure. The fire caused significant damage to the structure, and crews worked diligently to contain it. Local residents were advised to stay indoors due to smoke and potential hazards. Several nearby streets were temporarily closed for safety. Photos from the scene show Tower Ladder 10 actively engaged in firefighting efforts, while Engine 103 was positioned near a hydrant at the corner of Carroll and Hoyne. These images capture the intensity of the operation and the dedication of the responding units. This was a major incident, highlighting the challenges faced by firefighters when dealing with complex structures and fast-moving fires. Emergency responders from multiple departments worked together to bring the fire under control. No injuries have been reported at this time.
