Arlington Heights FD seeks applicants for fire chief

GovHR USA is excited to share that they are currently seeking a new Fire Chief for the Village of Arlington Heights. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified leader with a strong background in fire services and emergency management. The Arlington Heights Fire Department employs 108 dedicated personnel who deliver modern fire protection, emergency medical services (EMS), public education, and other essential community services. The department operates from four fire stations, offering full-service fire suppression, advanced life support (ALS) EMS, fire prevention, and special operations. As part of the Northwest Central Dispatch System, the department serves a large area covering over 170 square miles and supports nearly 500,000 residents with approximately 246,000 emergency calls annually. On average, the department responds to around 10,000 calls per year. The Training Division plays a vital role in the department's operations, managing day-to-day training and operating one of the state’s most advanced fire academies. With an operating budget of $22.6 million (as of 2018), the department holds an ISO Class 1 rating — one of only a few hundred across the country. The Village and Local 3105, the firefighters’ union, maintain strong labor relations through interest-based bargaining, minimizing the need for legal involvement in recent contract negotiations. To be considered for this position, candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Fire Science, or a related field, along with more than ten years of progressively responsible experience in fire management, fire suppression, and EMS. A Master’s Degree is preferred. Candidates should also have completed NIMS courses 100 through 800, hold Chief Fire Officer Provisional Status, or be eligible to obtain Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certification within four years of hire. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as knowledge of fire service procedures, governmental administrative practices, and local, state, and federal regulations. Experience in human resource management and proficiency in computer systems are also required. The starting salary range is $127,000 to $140,000, depending on qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package includes participation in the Illinois Downstate Firefighters Pension Fund, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and a deferred compensation plan. Employees also enjoy paid time off, holidays, and sick leave. Applications must be submitted online by December 21, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. CST. Please include a resume, cover letter, and contact information for five professional references. All submissions must be electronic. This is a great chance to lead a top-tier fire department in a dynamic and growing community.
